¿ERES DE LA CIUDAD O DEL RANCHO?
Growing up, my grandpa would always ask "¿Eres de la ciudad o del rancho?". On the days that I would eat a more traditional American breakfast, I would hesitantly say "ciudad". On the days that I would eat nopales y huevo con tortillas, I would confidently say "soy del rancho!" and he would look at me with such cariño in his eyes then lean in to kiss my head. I never quite understood what that meant until I visited Mexico with them.
This photo was taken in my grandmas childhood home in Durango. It encompasses the way of doing that my grandparents brought with them when they crossed the border. I'm thankful for how they have taught me to be resourceful and get things done using whatever materials are already on hand. It serves as a foundation for everything I create.
